A giant panda in a SW China breeding center gave birth on Friday to an overweight male cub, making her the mother of 10 cubs.

The mother panda "Chengji," who will turn 16 this September, gave birth to her 10th cub at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

The newborn, which weighed 205 grams, is the third overweight cub Chengji has given birth to following a pair of twins born in 2008, which weighed in at 206 and 202 grams. Normally, panda cubs weigh around 150 grams at birth.

Researchers at the base named the newborn Chengshi, as "shi" means ten in Chinese.
