An economic fugitive from northwest China's Gansu Province has been successfully repatriated from Vietnam through the cooperation of the two countries' police authorities.

Police sources say the man, surnamed Chen, illegally gained 5 million yuan (around 750,000 USD) from a commercial bank in Lanzhou through a false purchase contract in March 2014, and then absconded to Vietnam with the money.

In 2016, the Chinese authorities launched the "Fox Hunt" campaign to capture overseas economic fugitives and Chen became a major target on the campaign's wanted list.

In August 18 this year, the Vietnamese police received information from the Chinese police and captured Chen in Mong Cai and turned him to Gansu police the next day.

During the campaign, the police authorities in China have been urging fugitives to turn themselves in, and calling for their relatives in China and abroad to help persuade them to give return. By mid-August, the campaign has seen the arrest of 272 fugitives and 137 others have been persuaded to return from 61 countries and regions, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
