A couple in Ankang, Shaanxi Province held their wedding in a freeway tunnel on Tuesday because of a traffic jam caused by an accident. They just didn't want to miss the auspicious hour.

The morning accident happened at the tunnel exit when a semitrailer hit the guardrail and its damaged body blocked the road.

The traffic police didn't clear the road until 2:20 p.m., too late for a couple impatient to celebrate their marriage.

A fleet of wedding vehicles were stuck in the traffic jam. The bridegroom had picked up his bride early in a limousine, but when they headed to the ceremony site, the road was blocked. They thought there was plenty of time and even played poker while waiting; however, the traffic jam never eased.

As the time went by, the couple became worried about missing the most auspicious time. According to local custom, the wedding ceremony had to be held before 12:00 noon. So, they decided to hold the ceremony on site with the wedding emcee, witnessed by friends, stuck drivers and their passengers.

To ensure security, and hoping they would not affect any resumption in the flow of vehicles, the couple shortened the ceremony in 10 minutes, time enough to exchange pledges and rings with the help of the emcee.

The scene was uniquely romantic and became an instant hot topic when the photos were uploaded online.
