The Int'l Symposium on Postdoctoral Systems kicked off on Dec.11 in Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. More than 150 guests from China and abroad gathered to discuss the development of the postdoctoral institution.

The symposium attracted delegates from the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation (CPSF), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-Sen University, the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the US National Science Foundation, the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

"It is the first time for China to hold such an international symposium on postdoctoral systems. From it, we can learn from positive postdoctoral experiences in other countries," said Yu Jiadong, director of the Professional Technicians Management Office at Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, at the opening ceremony of the symposium.

He pointed out that we must take effective measures to develop more competitive talent policies so as better compete in the fierce global competitions surrounding technological and industrial revolution.

Deputy Secretary Ye Zhen of Party Committee of Hengqin New Area said at the opening ceremony that he hoped that through an exchange of views, the distinguished guests would be able tolearn from each others' advanced experiences in postdoctoral management.

Frank Lehner, director of the Foreign Affairs Office at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), said that holding such symposiums is an effective approach, through which relevant experts in China and abroad can exchange experience and offer visions for the system. It will also play an important role in improving Sino-German postdoctoral exchange programs.

The postdoctoral research and working station in Hengqin New Area is the first of its kind in China's Free Trade Zones. Since opening last year, Hengqin has set up four branches of the station.

The Hengqin government also issued a series of policies to attract postdoctoral researchers to set up new businesses and projects in the area.

The symposium is hosted by the office of the leading team of the postdoctoral research and working station in Hengqin, sponsored by Zhuhai Da Hengqin Technology Development Co., Ltd. (ZDTDC) and supported by the National Postdoctoral Administrative Committee Office and CPSF.
