Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to build world-class airport cluster

Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang will join hands to build a world-class airport cluster.There will be about 260 airports across China in 2020 when the new airports in Beijing and Chengdu and other major projects are constructed and put into operation.

China had a total of 207 civil airports by the end of 2015. Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou airports so far have achieved a more significant position as international hubs, with Beijing Capital International Airport having the second largest annual passenger throughput worldwide and Shanghai Pudong International Airport having the third largest cargo throughput.

In 2025, three world-class airport clusters, 10 international airport hubs and 29 regional hubs will have been completed.

At the same time, China will improve six airport clusters scattered across China, among which the north China airport cluster consists of airports in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. In the future, the region will boast 48 airports totally with 16 new ones scheduled.
