Beijing will build 300 more “beautiful villages” in the countryside and study the protection and development of traditional villages.

The top-level conference on rural work was held on Thursday with the theme of reducing non-essential functions, upgrading of rural areas and promoting the integration of urban and rural development.

According to a press conference held Wednesday, 60,000 rural homes will be renovated in terms of seismic resistance and energy conservation, 10,400 rural residents in mountainous areas will be relocated and the sewage treatment in 140 villages will be completed.

Meanwhile, the upgrading of rural infrastructure will also be stepped up with the focus on electricity and natural gas supply. A total of 700 villages will see coal consumption replaced by clean energy.
