Beijing’s Chaoyang District expects to see three private traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) institutions to set up overseas branches.

A health care-related salon was held in Beijing recently, attracting more than 20 diplomats from Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Austria as well as EU’s China delegation and the UNICEF.

An official of the Health and Family Planning Commission of Chaoyang District said at the salon that three private TCM institutions are expected to set up branches abroad this year, following the existing Japanese branches of Beijing Yuyuantang TCM Clinic and Beijing Dongwen TCM Clinic and the Romanian office of the Beijing Huangshu TCM Hospital.

The official also said that the district will introduce international tourism projects of TCM in 2017, enabling foreigners to feel the charm of TCM while receiving medical treatment.

Home to a large number of foreign nationals, Chaoyang District has been improving TCM services for foreign expats. A TCM clinic was set up in 2016 to provide Beijing-based diplomats with TCM treatment. In addition, two hospitals have launched “service package” -- consisting of acupuncture, cupping and others – for foreigners to experience TCM.
