Zhang Yujun, former assistant chairperson of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for severe disciplinary violations, the top anti-graft body said Friday.

Zhang was found to have seriously violated political and organizational discipline and attended banquets that could influence the fairness of official duty, according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC.

Investigators said that Zhang obstructed investigations and failed to report his personal information in accordance with rules.

The CCDI found that Zhang took advantage of his post to allow his relatives to seek a significant illicit benefits.

As a senior official of the CPC, Zhang disturbed capital market order and damaged the image of the securities regulator, it said.

Zhang's illegal gains will be confiscated and his case handed over to prosecutors.
