To combat the air pollution in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province and the surrounding regions in the next two seasons, related government departments and organizations should intensify efforts and accelerate steps to put a trans-regional environmental protection organization in place and start trial operations by the end of September, said Li Ganjie, minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection in a work conference on Sept. 5.

Li said sub-provincial environmental protection organizations should put vertical management system into trial operation to carry out supervision, law enforcement, and follow-up work based on prior assessment during the pilot run. These operations should be completed by June 2018. For issues that arise during the team building of the environmental protection organization and those that emerge during the pilot run, relevant authorities should tackle them in order based on how they most affect the team and its work progress.
