Liu Shanqiao, former chairman of the People's Political Consultative Conference of central China's Hubei Province, was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for corruption and violating the Party's code of conduct.

Liu acted against an investigation by the CPC and took bribes to help people gain promotions, said a statement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

He failed to report personal information accurately and traded power and money for sex, the statement said. Liu took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and accepted vast properties.

As a senior official of the CPC, he lost his faith in the Party. Even after the 18th CPC National Congress, he showed no signs of restraint and his wrongdoings were of a grave nature, the statement said.

Liu's illegal gains will be confiscated and his case transferred to the judiciary.

The CCDI announced an investigation into Liu in June.
