Amery Scott from Washington was an English teacher in Changshu City. He suffered a stroke on the night of Oct. 1 and was pronounced brain death on Tuesday.

His kidney and corneas have been given to Chinese patients, said Guo Qiang, a doctor with the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, in the city of Suzhou.

On Oct. 1, China's National Day, Scott wrote at his WeChat moments, "My greatest hope today is that the country I come from and the country that is my current home together continue to grow in peace and prosperity, Happy National Day!"

According to his family, Scott agreed to donate his organs while applying for a driving license in the United States.
