The Zhanghua electrical substation for Beijing's new Daxing airport recently began operation, one month ahead of schedule.

The 110-kilovolt substation is part of the supporting power grid projects to be completed and put into operation in June 2018, which would allow a one year trial period for the new airport. The Zhanghua substation was the first project to break ground, which covers a total area of 3,690 square meters and includes two 50,000 kVA transformers.

After all the power grid projects are completed, the new airport will be supported by two 500-kilovolt substations and two 220-kilovolt multi-directional grids, which will greatly enhance the capacity and reliability of its electric power supply.

In addition, according to the Beijing Electric Power Company of the State Grid Corporation of China, the power supplies to the new Daxing airport will be environmentally friendly.

During the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), Beijing will construct two 500-kilovolt power supply channels "Beijing West—Xinhangcheng" and "Fangshan—Nancai." The two channels will be used for bringing clean electric power to Beijing's southern power grid, which also supports the new Daxing airport.
