Abstract

In order to achieve the Chinese dream of national revival, we should trace back to the historical origins of the Chinese nation. The genes of the Chinese civilization can be identified in China's development. Arnold Toynbee said, from the perspective of the history of civilization, the Chinese civilization is the only "universal civilization" in the history of mankind that has adhered to the idea of pacifism and cosmopolitanism for several thousand years, and can make various ethnic groups unite as a nation as proved by its own history and practices.

Full awareness of the civilizational components of the Chinese dream will help understand why the socialist development road with Chinese characteristics which is different from and tries to outperform the Western road, is based on China's history and its actual conditions. It also helps the Western countries to have a fair view of China's rise and the significance of China's model to the world, and to abandon the "China threat" judgment deduced from their own historical experiences.
