China's top legislature opens annual session

NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo announced the opening of the NPC annual session



The 11th National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature of China, opened its fourth session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing at 9 AM Saturday.

Premier Wen Jiabao delivers a report on the work of the government at the opening meeting chaired by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo.

The NPC gathering of about 2,923 legislators nationwide will review the government work report for 2010, set the economic growth target for 2011, as well as set development strategies for the year ahead.

As the most significant event in the political life of China, the NPC attracts attention from interested parties at home and abroad.
