Currently, women must retire at 55 and men at 60; however, recently there's been a spirited debate over whether women's retirement age should be raised to 60.

It's a really hard choice for women to decide whether to postpone their retirement, famous actress Song Chunli told China.org.cn.

"It is a great pity for them to leave their jobs," said Song, who is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). "Some of them would choose to work until 70 if they were left to make the choice themselves."

Song says many women from all walks of life remain vigorous and love their jobs at 55, but she recognizes the realities of the current job market filled with new graduates who cannot find jobs, and a retirement age of 55 provides more job openings.
