BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.21 percent to 3,387.57 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.44 percent higher at 10,294.22 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.17 trillion yuan (about 162.64 billion U.S. dollars), flat from the previous trading day.
Shares in sectors such as gold, solid-state batteries and innovative drugs led the gains, while those related to chemical fibers and AI corpus were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.83 percent to close at 2,065.39 points Wednesday. Enditem
