PRAGUE, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- A growing outbreak of hepatitis A is spreading across the Czech Republic, with Prague reporting 826 cases since January and 10 deaths, the Prague public health authority HygPraha said on Tuesday.

According to the National Institute of Public Health (SZU), most fatalities occurred among people with liver disease or weakened immunity.

Nationwide, more than 1,500 infections have been recorded in the first nine months of 2025, which is four times more than in the same period last year.

Experts say the virus spreads mainly via contaminated food, water, or direct contact.

According to SZU, this year's outbreak is the second-worst since 1989, with 1,842 confirmed cases by early October. Enditem
