Mainland highlights best approach to realizing national reunification

BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday noted that the policies of peaceful reunification and "one country, two systems" are the basic policies for resolving the Taiwan question and the best way to achieve national reunification.

The mainland is willing to create a broad space for peaceful reunification, and will strive for that prospect with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort, said Peng Qing'en, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.

"However, we will never promise to renounce the use of force. We will retain the option to take all necessary actions," he added.

Peaceful reunification requires joint effort by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Peng said, expressing hope that the people of Taiwan will join in steadfastly opposing "Taiwan independence" secessionist activities and resisting external interference. Enditem
