BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.81 percent to 3,954.79 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.14 percent lower at 13,378.21 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.32 trillion yuan (about 327.31 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.42 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to nonferrous metals, electronic components and financial sectors suffered major losses, while those in media and entertainment, bio-medicine, and printing and packaging saw notable gains.
