NANJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan was eliminated from the 2025 World Snooker Tour International Championship on Tuesday, losing 6-5 to Jack Lisowski in the round of 32.
Since winning the Northern Ireland Open in October, Lisowski has seen a significant boost in confidence. In an intense match against "the Rocket," the first session ended tied 2-2. After the interval, both players produced a series of high breaks.
Lisowski moved ahead to secure the match point at 5-3. O'Sullivan fought back by taking two consecutive frames to force a decider. In the final frame, Lisowski potted a crucial brown ball to clinch a dramatic 6-5 victory and a place in the last 16.
"It was a very close game," Lisowski said. "I would have liked to play a little bit better at the end because I had already got to 5-3. But I just lost my concentration, so I was very lucky to win."
Lisowski said the Northern Ireland Open title had given him more confidence. "When you win a tournament, you feel like you can beat anyone. I think I am still riding that high, and it's a great feeling that I still feel it," he added.
Elsewhere, Chinese star Ding Junhui defeated Liam Highfield 6-4 to advance. After building a 4-0 lead and extending it to 5-1, Ding withstood a fightback from Highfield, who won three consecutive frames, before sealing the victory with an 85-point break in the 10th frame.
Fellow Chinese player Si Jiahui delivered an outstanding performance, firing two century breaks in a 6-0 sweep of Gary Wilson.
In all-Chinese matchups, Wu Yize fired three consecutive century breaks to defeat Zhang Anda 6-3, and Zhao Xintong clinched a narrow 6-5 victory over Lei Peifan.
Other players advancing to the last 16 include Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and John Higgins, while Kyren Wilson was defeated 6-4 by Stephen Maguire.
In a notable achievement, Zak Surety compiled his second career 147 maximum break in a match against Aaron Hill. The feat is the second maximum of this tournament, the 14th of the season and the 231st in official recorded history. Enditem
