SHENZHEN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Eighteen-year-old Zhang Zhanshuo won the men's 800m freestyle at China's 15th National Games on Thursday in 7 minutes and 46.69 seconds, breaking the national junior record.

He had already claimed gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle earlier in the meet. Zhejiang's Fei Liwei took silver, while Shandong's Liu Peixin earned bronze.

"I haven't reached that high a level yet. I'll keep working hard and stay focused on chasing higher goals," Zhang said. He will also compete in the 1,500m freestyle and 400m individual medley later in the Games.

Zhang competed in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics. At this year's World Championships, he finished fifth in the 400m freestyle and helped China win silver in the 4x200m relay.

In the women's 200m freestyle, Siobhan Haughey from China's Hong Kong won in 1:54.85, marking Hong Kong's first swimming gold at the National Games. Hebei's Li Bingjie took silver, and Zhejiang's Liu Yaxin earned bronze.

"I'm very satisfied with this result. Standing on the podium shows my current form is quite good, and it gives me a lot of confidence for the upcoming races," said Haughey.

Li, who staged a strong chase in the final 50 meters after trailing early on, said she hopes to deliver a better performance in the women's 800m freestyle later in the week.

In the men's 200m butterfly, Xu Fang of Shandong took gold in 1:54.74, followed by his teammate Wang Xizhe and Guangdong's Chen Jun'er.

In the newly-added men's 50m breaststroke event, Shanghai's Zheng Yinghao won gold with a personal best of 26.97 seconds. Hubei's Yan Zibei and Sun Jiajun got silver and bronze, while Asian record holder Qin Haiyang of Shanghai was disqualified.

Zhejiang dominated the mixed 4x100m medley relay, winning in 3:42.09. Enditem
