Shandong Heroes claim final quarterfinal spot at CBA Club Cup

WUHAN, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Shandong Heroes claimed the final quarterfinal berth at the CBA Club Cup on Monday with a 100-93 victory over the Qingdao Eagles in Changsha.

Seven teams had already secured places in the last eight before the Shandong-Qingdao meeting. Shandong took control early, opening a nine-point lead after the first quarter and maintaining the edge through to the final buzzer.

Former NBA forward Marquese Chriss led the way with 28 points, finishing as one of four Shandong players in double figures.

"If we win, we advance to the finals stage, so I made it clear what I expected," Shandong head coach Qiu Biao said. "We were solid on rebounds and assists. I hope our homegrown players can contribute even more on offense."

Elsewhere, the already-qualified Zhejiang Lions edged the Beijing Ducks 92-89 to extend their winning streak to four games. The Ducks were eliminated after finishing group play with one win and three losses.

Group competitions in Nanchang, Nanning and Wuhan concluded Sunday. Shanghai Sharks, Beijing Royal Fighters, Zhejiang Golden Bulls, Jilin Northeast Tigers, Shanxi Loongs and Guangdong Southern Tigers also advanced to the quarterfinals, which will begin on February 6 in Hohhot. Enditem
