BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's public security situation continued to improve last year, with public satisfaction having remained above 98 percent for six consecutive years and the number of criminal cases nationwide falling by 12.8 percent year on year.
These statistics were released during a central meeting on judicial, procuratorial and public security work held on Sunday and Monday in Beijing.
Law enforcement and judicial authorities achieved breakthroughs in combating telecom and online fraud in 2025, delivering devastating blows to the four major family criminal syndicates in northern Myanmar, according to the meeting.
A total of 57,000 criminals have been transferred back to China so far. Notably, Chen Zhi, a ringleader of gambling and fraud syndicates, was extradited to China last year.
Historic progress was also made in the fight against drug-related crimes, with the number of registered drug users nationwide dropping by 63 percent compared with the end of 2020.
Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the meeting.
He urged efforts to advance both the Peaceful China Initiative and the rule of law in China to a higher level to provide a strong guarantee for the opening of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
Chen acknowledged the achievements made in national political and legal work in 2025, and stressed that in advancing the work for 2026, efforts must be made to strengthen Party building and implement the Party's absolute leadership over political and legal affairs. Enditem
