XIAMEN, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tang Yijun, former chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was on Monday sentenced to life in prison for taking bribes.
His sentence was handed down by a court in Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province.
Tang was also deprived of political rights for the remainder of his life. His personal property will be confiscated, and his illegal gains will be recovered and turned over to the state treasury, according to the sentence.
The court found that Tang took advantage of his various positions between 2006 and 2022, including posts in the provinces of Zhejiang and Liaoning, as well as his post as minister of justice, to benefit others in matters such as company listings, land repurchases, bank loans and case handling, illegally accepting money and gifts worth over 137 million yuan (about 19.7 million U.S. dollars) in return.
An open trial took place on Sept. 11, 2025. In his final statement, Tang pleaded guilty and expressed remorse. Enditem
