Asian athletics chief: Tianjin will set new benchmark for indoor athletics events in Asia

TIANJIN, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The president of Asian Athletics Association, Dahlan Al Hamad highly praised the efficient and professional preparatory work of Tianjin for the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships.

The event, to be held in this municipality in north China from February 6 to 8, features 26 disciplines, with over 300 athletes from 35 countries and regions across Asia participating.

Dahlan said that China has been playing a leading role in the athletics development in Asia. By hosting the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China is not only an organizer, but also creating a platform for future generation of athletes across the continent.

"Hosting an indoor championship requires attention to details. We are confident that Tianjin will set a new benchmark for indoor athletics events in Asia," said Dahlan at the pre-match press conference on Thursday.
