MACAO, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The preliminary estimate of Macao's foreign exchange reserves stood at 241.8 billion patacas (30.08 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of January 2026, the Monetary Authority of Macao said on Friday.
The reserves decreased by 1.5 percent from the revised 245.6 billion patacas recorded a month earlier. The authority also noted that Macao's foreign exchange reserves at the end of January 2026 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 89.8 percent of the Macao pataca M2 at the end of December 2025.
Meanwhile, the trade-weighted nominal effective exchange rate index for the Macao pataca fell by 0.65 points month on month and 7.08 points year on year to 100.5 in January, indicating an overall depreciation against the currencies of Macao's major trading partners.
