Tree planting ceremony held to mark 70 years of cooperation between Xinhua, TASS

BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China's Xinhua News Agency and Russia's TASS News Agency held a friendship tree planting ceremony in Beijing on Monday to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of their cooperative relations.

Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency, said that over the past seven decades, Xinhua and TASS have shared weal and woe, shouldered the mission of the times and documented historic events, achieving mutual progress through close cooperation and common development.

It is hoped that the two sides will carry forward their traditional friendship, deepen mutual learning and exchanges, and steadily advance China-Russia media cooperation to yield more fruitful results, Fu added.

Andrey Kondrashov, director general of TASS, said in his speech that the two major news agencies have shared profound mutual trust and their cooperation is built on mutual respect.

Noting that the two magnolia trees vividly symbolize the 70 years of friendship between TASS and Xinhua, Kondrashov expressed the wish for ever-better cooperation between the two sides.

At the ceremony, Fu and Kondrashov jointly unveiled the monument commemorating the 70th anniversary of their cooperative ties and watered the friendship trees. Enditem
