BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to work with Liberia to fully utilize the dividends of China's zero-tariff treatment and to better facilitate trade between the two countries, in order to unleash the potential of mutually beneficial cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while holding talks with Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti in Beijing.
Wang said that China and Liberia are friends and partners who have stood together through hardships, forging ahead hand in hand on the path to modernization.
Wang also said China appreciates Liberia's adherence to the one-China principle, and supports Liberia in safeguarding national sovereignty and security as well as its efforts to explore a development path suited to its national conditions and traditions. He added that China stands ready to continue offering staunch mutual support on issues that affect each other's core interests and major concerns.
Noting that China is willing to advance cooperation with Liberia in trade, agriculture, livelihood and other fields, and strengthen exchanges in culture, youth, sports and human resources, Wang said China is ready to work with Liberia to fully utilize the dividends of zero-tariff policy, with Liberia being among the earliest beneficiaries.
Wang welcomed Liberia's accession to the International Organization for Mediation as a new member, stating that China fully supports Liberia in performing its duties as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and stands ready to work with it to revitalize and strengthen the United Nations and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South.
Nyanti stated that Liberia firmly upholds the one-China principle, respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and has enshrined this commitment in domestic legislation, and deeply appreciates China's long-term valuable support for its national development and pandemic response.
Liberia stands ready to draw on China's experience in poverty alleviation and development, and strengthen multilateral cooperation within the framework of the United Nations, she added. Enditem
