XIAMEN, China, May 23 (Xinhua) -- China's 18-year-old javelin prodigy Yan Ziyi produced a sensational 71.74 meters throw on her very first attempt to break both the Asian and world U20 records and claim the World Athletics Diamond League title here on Saturday.

"Before the competition, my target was actually 65 meters," said Yan, who opted to withdraw from her remaining attempts after sealing the victory. "I never imagined I could throw this far. I had only done it once in training."

She added that breaking the Asian record had come later than expected. "I wanted to put on a good performance in my first meet of the year in Keqiao, but I was too nervous."

Reflecting on the world record, Yan remained grounded. "I'm not rushing. My priority is to stabilize my throws around 71 meters."

In women's discus, world champion Feng Bin of China took second place with a third-round effort of 65.03m, while American star Valarie Allman secured her 12th consecutive Diamond League victory with a best throw of 68.45m on her second attempt.
