BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Emergency Management on Saturday activated a Level-IV emergency response for geological disasters in Chongqing and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as a new round of heavy rainfall hits southern China.
Authorities identified a high risk of geological disasters in central Chongqing, northern and southeastern Guangxi, and parts of western Guizhou from June 6 to 9. The ministry maintains an ongoing Level-IV response for Guizhou.
The ministry has urged local authorities in affected regions to fulfill their responsibilities in disaster prevention and response. Officials must closely monitor rainfall and flood conditions, and pre-position rescue personnel, supplies and equipment.
Furthermore, local governments must intensify inspections and monitoring and decisively organize the evacuation of those who need relocation as early as possible to minimize casualties and ensure public safety. Enditem
