XI'AN, June 7 (Xinhua) -- China's second-tier football club Shaanxi Union announced on Sunday that head coach Henk Fraser has stepped down from his position.

"After a friendly negotiation with Henk Fraser, we decided to accept his resignation application submitted for personal reasons. Fraser is no longer holding his position as our first team's head coach," the club said in a statement released on Sunday.

Fraser, 59, was appointed head coach of Shaanxi Union in January. Under his guidance, the club collected 10 points from its opening nine matches of the 2026 China League One season, leaving it ninth in the standings and 12 points behind the league leader.

"We sincerely thank Henk Fraser for all his contributions to the club," read the club's announcement.

Before his departure, Fraser wrote a letter to the club's players, staff, employees, supporters and everyone associated with Shaanxi Union.

"With pain in my heart, I have decided to step down from my role at the club due to personal circumstances. This has not been an easy decision," read the letter from the former Netherlands assistant coach.

"To the players: I want you to know how proud I am of your dedication, discipline, and development. Keep believing in yourselves and in each other. This club has a promising future," Fraser wrote.

"The new coach selection work is underway. We are going to release the new head coach's name in the near future. Before the new head coach is named, our assistant coaches team will take over the head coach's position temporarily," said Shaanxi Union's media release. Enditem
