Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1 percent to 3,996.16 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.29 percent lower at 15,046.67 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 3.39 trillion yuan (about 499 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.91 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.

Stocks related to commercial spaceflight led the gains, while semiconductor shares were among the top decliners.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 4.37 percent to close at 3,842.73 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 4.5 percent lower at 2,348.75 points. Enditem
