SHANGHAI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Global artificial intelligence (AI) development is showing fresh trends in terms of infrastructure, industrialization of large models and global governance, said a report released on Friday at the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai.
Global AI infrastructure continues to expand, with energy supply emerging as a new variable for future development, said the 2026 global AI innovation index report compiled by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China and Peking University.
The industrialization focus of large AI models is shifting from general-purpose to vertical applications, from training to inference, and from single-point technology deployment to whole business process transformation, with enterprises opting for significant heavy-asset investment.
The report also noted that there is an urgent demand for global AI governance, and that China is promoting global AI governance and inclusive cooperation in multiple dimensions.
The 2026 global AI innovation index report carried out quantitative evaluations of AI innovation and development across 46 countries, reflecting the overall landscape and evolving trends of AI development worldwide. Enditem
