China mulls law against cyber abuse

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The Cyberspace Administration of China on Wednesday released a draft law against cyber abuse to solicit public opinions.

The administration said in a statement that the proposed legislation responds to widespread public concern over the harm caused by cyber abuse and growing calls for stronger measures to address the problem.

Under the draft law, internet service providers are required to promptly alert users in an obvious manner once they identify possible risks of cyber abuse, provide users with anti-cyber abuse services, and report such cases to authorities if minors, older adults or people with disabilities are involved.

The draft law also stipulates that if internet service providers fail to take the necessary measures to stop confirmed cyber abuse acts, victims may apply to a local court for an order requiring the offenders to cease their acts, and requires courts to accept such applications.

In cases where acts of cyber abuse harm national or public interests, procuratorates or organizations designated by cyberspace administration authorities may initiate public interest litigation.

The draft law will be open for public opinions until Aug. 28, according to the statement. Enditem
