China upgrades meteorological emergency response, typhoon alert as Typhoon Dolphin approaches

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority on Saturday upgraded its emergency response for Typhoon Dolphin to Level III and raised the typhoon warning from yellow to orange as the 13th typhoon of 2026 moves closer to the country's eastern coast.

The China Meteorological Administration upgraded the response from Level IV to Level III, while the National Meteorological Center had earlier upgraded its typhoon warning to orange.

At 9:00 a.m. Saturday, the center of Typhoon Dolphin was located over the southern East China Sea, about 520 km east of Wenzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province, and is forecast to move northwestward at a speed of 10 to 15 km per hour with its intensity remaining stable or slightly strengthening.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall along the coast between Zhoushan in Zhejiang and Fuding in Fujian from Sunday night to Monday morning.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system for typhoons, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue. It also has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the highest. Enditem
