Yellow River records 27 consecutive years of uninterrupted flow

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Yellow River, China's second-longest river, has maintained an uninterrupted flow for 27 consecutive years, the Ministry of Water Resources said Wednesday.

The Yellow River Conservancy Commission under the ministry launched unified water regulation for the river in 1999. Since then, water allocation operations have evolved from a basic goal of preventing dry-ups to a refined, multi-objective coordination system, becoming central to safeguarding the river's ecological health.

During the 2025-2026 period, total inflow from the main water-source areas of the Yellow River basin reached about 48.92 billion cubic meters, approximately 7 percent above the multi-year average.

For ecological water replenishment and inter-basin transfers, 346 million cubic meters of water was diverted from the Yellow River to Hebei Province in north China, providing a stable water source for the ecological restoration of river and lake systems in the region.

The first batch of 18 river restoration projects in the Yellow River basin has been fully completed. Moving forward, efforts to restore river and lake ecosystems will be further expanded, with a second batch of 29 rivers and lakes already added to the restoration list, the ministry said. Enditem
