BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- China firmly opposes taking sides and camp-based confrontation on artificial intelligence (AI), Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Wednesday.

Lin made the remarks at a regular media briefing when asked to comment on the report that the U.S. government plans to send a letter to the signatories of the Joint Statement on AI Opportunity Partnership, notifying the countries that they can't hold membership in duplicative initiatives at the same time.

"All countries have the right to choose their cooperation partners in light of their national conditions and development needs," Lin stressed.

He said it is hoped that all parties can abandon the zero-sum mentality, pursue solidarity and mutual benefit, respect all countries' digital sovereignty, and work together to foster a fair and reasonable global AI governance system. Enditem
