HONG KONG, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Global Unicorn Summit opened in Hong Kong on Monday, connecting high-flying startups with each other as well as investors worldwide.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive John Lee reaffirmed Hong Kong's commitment to nurturing emerging industries and improving the ecosystem for innovation.
The two flagship technology hubs in Hong Kong -- Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport -- provide startups at various stages of development with comprehensive support, said Lee, noting that the city has fostered about 20 unicorn enterprises in the past decade.
Lee said that the Hong Kong Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone will become a new world-class hub for innovation, which is home to more than 90 tech institutions.
For mainland startups and unicorn enterprises, Hong Kong serves as the ideal launchpad towards overseas markets and a strategic foothold in their global supply chains, said Lee. The city is also a premier hub for overseas innovation firms to explore the mainland market, he added.
The event is hosted by Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group and attended by over 200 unicorns worldwide. Enditem
