BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Sun Shaocheng, former vice director of the Social Development Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of discipline and laws, China's top anti-graft agency announced on Wednesday.

Upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) conducted an investigation into Sun's case, according to a statement by the CCDI and NCS.

Having lost his ideals and convictions, Sun, also a member of the 20th CPC Central Committee, failed to fully implement major decisions and plans by the CPC Central Committee, and underperformed in assuming the principal responsibility for full and rigorous Party self-governance, the statement said.

Sun violated the eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct by accepting cash gifts and banquets, which may have affected his performance in his official duties, said the statement.

The investigation also found that Sun violated the Party's organizational rules by being dishonest in official inquiries and improperly seeking benefits for others during the promotion of officials.

Sun was also found to have used his position to assist others in matters concerning project approval and contracting. In return, he accepted huge sums of money and valuables, the statement said.

In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel him from the Party and public office, confiscate his illicit gains and hand over his case for judicial proceedings.

Sun was also deprived of his qualification as a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress.

The decision of expelling Sun from the CPC will be confirmed when the CPC Central Committee convenes its next plenary meeting.

The CCDI and the NCS announced an investigation into Sun for suspected severe violations of discipline and laws in January this year. Enditem
