BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.71 percent to 3,891.6 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.26 percent higher at 13,454.74 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 1.84 trillion yuan (about 272.08 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.61 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Electronics and information, non-ferrous metals, and chemicals were among the top gainers, while shipbuilding, liquor, and financial stocks saw major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.96 percent to close at 3,311.47 points Wednesday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.6 percent higher at 1,890.25 points on Wednesday. Enditem
