Elevator plunge kills 8 in NE China mine

Eight people were killed after the elevator that carried them suddenly plunged into the ground Tuesday morning at a lead-zinc mine in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

The accident occurred at around 7:40 a.m. in Fengyuan lead zinc ore mine in Tieling City, a provincial work safety bureau official said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
