Four people, including a 4-year-old boy, died and two others were injured in a fireworks plant explosion on Sunday in south China's Guangdong Province, local government officials said Monday.

The accident occurred at 6:40 p.m. in an illegal fireworks plant in Xiapai Village, Dianbai County, Maoming City.

At least six people were in the facility at the time, and four -- the boy and three women -- died at the scene. Two others, including a 14-year-old girl and a man, were hospitalized with injuries.

The police detained three people suspected of involvement with the incident and the county government launched a check of all fireworks plants.
