HK pledges aid for quake victims

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has pledged assistance, including a 300 million HK dollars emergency fund for quake victims.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang said that the departments of health and fire service of the Hong Kong SAR government has organized an emergency joint rescue team which is awaiting orders. An emergency meeting will be held by the Legislative Council on Wednesday to approve the Hong Kong SAR government's application for the 300 million HK dollars in emergency relief.

Tsang added that a volunteer medical team is also on standby. And he called on the public and institutions in Hong Kong to offer assistance.
