Message of condolences from EU High Representative for the CFSP

On Tuesday, May 13, 2008, Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), sent a message of condolences to the Chinese authorities following the devastating earthquake.

Following is the whole message:

"I have just learned about the devastating earthquake that struck China, notably Sichuan province, and took the life of many thousands of Chinese citizens.

On behalf of the European Union, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the government of China.

I know that the Chinese authorities will do their utmost to provide rapid relief to the victims of this disaster. Allow me nevertheless to underline the European Union's readiness to assist."
