Most of the dead were in Sichuan Province with fourteen thousand four hundred and sixty-three. The death toll in neighboring Gansu Province was 280, Shaanxi 106, 14 in Chongqing Municipality and 2 deaths in Henan and one in Yunnan Province.

This afternoon, the national Seismological Bureau said there had been 18 aftershocks over 5 magnitude, with the biggest at 6.1 on the Richter's Scale
