The first batch of international aid, donated by Russia, has arrived in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

This is the Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu. On Wednesday, local officials worked with the staff from Russian Emergency Ministry to transfer the relief materials.

Customs checked the materials as soon as the cargo plane arrived. Emergency procedures ensured a swift passage through formalities.

Zhu Yiren from Chengdu Customs said, "The relevant departments of the provincial government have made full preparations, and the delivery plane is waiting at Taipingsi airport. When the relief materials are transferred to the airport, the plane will take off to the quake-hit areas, no later than tonight."

The first batch of disaster relief materials includes urgently needed tents and quilts. In the next two days, four more Russian cargo planes will bring disaster relief materials worth 4 million US dollars.
