Rescue teams are working around the clock to restore power supplies. The good news is that a substantial number of electricity grid and transformer substations are now working.

Our reporter in Du Jiangyan says 86 percent of substations in badly affected areas other than Wenchuan and Beichuan counties, had been repaired by 1pm Beijing time on Sunday.

Four days ago, less than 10 percent of substations were restored. Severe challenges remain in Wenchuan and Beichuan counties. Roads leading to the two counties are still under repair, preventing rescue technicians from getting there.

China's main power supplier, National Grid, says they are making long-term plans to restore power supply in the whole province.
