UN, American Red Cross praise China on relief work

Officials from international organizations have voiced approval of China's effort in providing earthquake relief.

Franz Baumann, deputy director-general of the United Nations Office at Vienna, mourned quake victims while offering praise for China's rapid response to the quake.

The American Red Cross has donated ten million US dollars to China. Alex Mahoney, manager of Disaster Programs for Asia, the Middle East and Europe of American Red Cross, also has praised China's relief work.

Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun, World Health Organization director-general says WHO will help China to prevent outbreaks of disease.

Chan Fung Fu-Chun, director general of WHO, said, "The first and most important task is disease prevention. And we're ready to provide assistance to the Chinese government."

Markku Niskala, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says psychological counseling is another important element for returning life to normalcy.
