China's top legislator Wu Bangguo Tuesday morning went by helicopter to Yingxiu town of Wenchuan County, the epicenter of May 12 devastating earthquake in southwestern Sichuan Province.

Wu left Beijing on Monday to direct disaster relief work in the quake-ravaged province. Shortly after his arrival at the provincial capital of Chengdu, he visited a local hospital and a distribution center of relief goods.

Wu is now chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, or the top legislature, and member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
