A medical team of 28 doctors and nurses left Islamabad on Tuesday for the earthquake-affected areas in Gansu Province in northwest China.

Two military planes transported the medical team and carried ambulances, X-ray machines, electricity generators and five tons of medicine. The team will operate independently in a mobile hospital.

Pakistan's Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman, and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Luo Zhaohui, were at the air base to see off the medical mission. Rehman said the mission will augment medical relief activities in China's earthquake-hit areas.
